The role
The Head of Strategy is quite possibly the most important position in the agency as they lead our team of strategists. Here at alan, the strategists are the ultimate polymaths. They are simultaneously researchers, managing editors, marketing strategists, art directors and project managers. The strategists make it all happen. As such, leading this team requires a uniquely talented individual.
The Head of Strategy must be capable of working across the full range of the agency’s capabilities to set strategy that pushes the boundaries and ensure the successful delivery of all client projects. Most importantly, the individual must inspire and challenge clients and colleagues. They should demonstrate ingenuity and a firm commitment to experimentation and innovation.
The Head of Strategy sits on the agency leadership team.
Roles and responsibilities
Client strategy
- Create innovative strategic solutions to deliver client objectives
- Consult clients across the agency’s six service offerings
- Manage and coordinate the delivery of client strategy through team of strategists
- Collaborate with editorial, design and development teams to ensure creative expression and execution delivers on strategy
- Ensure that all output from the Strategy team meets alan’s quality standards
- Continuously invest in deepening knowledge of marketing, industries and clients to ensure the team and our solutions are at the forefront
Production
- Work with Head of Production and relevant account team to ensure that all client projects are adequately resourced, scheduled and delivered on time and on budget
- Continuously identify process efficiencies and instil a culture of continuous improvement
- Run weekly production meeting to ensure all projects are on track
Business continuity
- Feed into resource forecast and proactively identify skills gaps
- Lead recruitment process for strategy team
Management
- Support and proactively identify development plans for all direct reports
- Conduct performance reviews for all direct reports
- Maintain positive working relationships with Creative Director, Director of Client Services, Head of Production and Head of Development
Products and services
- Work with business to ensure that our products and solutions correspond to client need
- Lead team to be ambitious and experimental with creative output and service delivery
- Feed into strategy and NPD
