The role

Raconteur Agency is a leading B2B marketing agency at the beginning of an ambitious growth phase following significant investment. Critical to this growth will be the expansion of the agency’s digital capabilities to complement its well-established strategy, content and marketing offerings. The Head of Digital will be at the heart of this exciting next phase.

The Head of Digital will lead all digital client projects and own the digital strategy for the agency. The role will be pivotal in defining and growing the agency’s digital offering and winning new business so the candidate must have the capability to bridge commercial, creative and technical, alongside excellent communication skills.

The role will be supported by two developers but the Head of ‘Digital’ will also be directly involved in build so the candidate must still have an appetite to be hands on.

The Head of ‘Digital’ will also be tasked with further developing the team with roles such as a Digital Strategist.

Key responsibilities

  • Set digital strategy, choose tools and manage delivery for all (digital) client projects (websites, tools and digital experiences)
  • Define the agency’s core ‘digital’ product offering(s)
  • Consult clients on best practice at both pre and post sales stages
  • Deliver pitches
  • Front end development
  • Manage marketing automation integrations
  • Establishing best practice for digital production and workflow management
  • Lead team of developers and digital strategist 

Key skills


  • JavaScript (ES6 / ES5)
  • Experience with a JavaScript framework (React / Vue)
  • CSS and at least one preprocessor (we use Sass)
  • PHP 7 (object-oriented methodologies) and MySQL 5
  • Git version control
  • Front-end performance best practices
  • Good understanding of web standards
  • Good understanding of SEO best practices


  • Ability to complete tasks on your own as well as collaborate as a strong team member
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Nice to haves

  • WordPress (theme development and plugin customisation)
  • GatsbyJS and / or GraphQL
  • Gulp / Grunt task runners
  • Composer and NPM package managers
  • CSS in JS (styled-components / Emotion)
  • LAMP / Docker stacks
  • Experience utilising Memcache and Varnish
  • TypeScript
  • Experience of UX and digital design

Salary: £75,000 - 80,000 DOE
